How to Wash White Bedding

How to Wash White Bedding

Read the labels carefully since many items cannot be washed with bleach. But, in general, detergent alone is not enough to deep clean white clothes. Numerous tests and research have been conducted to show that it is safe to use Clorox® Bleach on many items as long as the instructions, on both the product and the garments to be treated are followed. As an alternative to bleach, you can use a laundry additive such as Clorox® Clothes Stain Remover Supreme Whitener. Before starting, we always recommend doing a test to verify that the garments can be bleached or that they are colorfast during the wash. You can find more information about these tests on the product labels. To machine wash:

  1. Fill
Fill the bleach dispenser in the washing machine to the maximum level with Clorox® Bleach. If your washing machine does not have a bleach dispenser, add 8 oz of Clorox® Bleach to the water before adding the clothes. Add your regular detergent.

Alternatively, add 4 oz (about 1/2 cup) of Clorox® Clothes Stain Remover Supreme Whitener along with your regular detergent.
  2. Wash
Start a regular washing cycle. For best results, wash at 104 °F. Always read the washing instructions for each garment carefully.

Test to verify that garments can be bleached

You can run a quick test to see if the garment can be bleached. Mix 2 teaspoons (0.3 oz) of Clorox® Bleach with 1/3 cup of water. Apply a drop of this solution to an inconspicuous area of the fabric. Rinse after 5 minutes and let dry. If you don’t notice a loss of color, you can use liquid bleach on the garment by following the instructions above. There are fabrics and materials that should never be bleached. These include: wool, silk, leather, lycra, and non-colorfast garments.

Test to verify colorfastness

Prior to using Clorox® Clothes Stain Remover Supreme Whitener, you should run a test to verify that the garments are colorfast. Apply a drop of this solution to an inconspicuous area of the fabric. Wait 5 minutes and then rinse the area. If there is no color loss or changes, you can use the product safely. To perform the colorfastness test, and before using Clorox® Clothes Stain Remover Intense Whites, dissolve 1 tablespoon (1/2 oz) of the product in a cup of warm water. Apply a drop of this solution in an inconspicuous area of the garment and wait for 15 minutes. Then rinse well and let dry. If there is no color loss or changes, you can use the product safely.
